Peace.

Maya Angelou
“Every person needs to take one day away.  A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future.  Jobs, family, employers, and friends can exist one day without any one of us, and if our egos permit us to confess, they could exist eternally in our absence.  Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for.  Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.”
― Maya AngelouWouldn't Take Nothing for My Journey Now

May you find peace and rest in your weekend.

  2. If all us could believe that we deserve the self-care we so desperately need the world as a whole would look drastically different. Here's to peace beginning with us.

  4. It is a nice thought, but the war raging in my mind follows me wherever I go. Thankfully, I have not been destroyed from within, but I can certainly understand what shell-shock and PTSD, which some military personnel suffer from after engaging with an enemy on a physical battlefield, is all about.

    1. I think, Jerry, you are far from being alone in this. I'm sorry you battle this.

  5. Yes. Peace like a river. We can't allow ourselves to be burdened; the Lord said that we weren't meant to carry cares. What a beautiful posting, Julie.

    1. Thanks, Mary Ann. If I don't make this deliberate, my mind can wander.

  7. I listen to Shaw.direct.ca, the spa channel for this very reason. Because the music heals and soothes. Thanks, Julie! Have a wonderful Sunday.

    1. When I write, I listen to a similar station on Pandora. It's the only kind of music I can have on when I'm trying to focus.

  8. Perfect post to read and listen to today. That time away...to withdraw from the cares that won't withdraw from us—precisely what my Wed. night group promises.

  9. My doctor made me use, hourly, a bio-feedback card (measured the temperature from my thumb) in my early, stress-filled career. I wish I had that 2:55 minute video back when I had to take that hourly time-out.

    1. There are videos on YouTube for meditation that are hours long. I had no idea! I usually tune into something like this on Pandora and try to be still.

  10. I had plenty of days like that described when I was a younger man. Now in retirement there is much I want to stay in touch with. If nothing else I like to call my mother nearly every day since I don't know how much longer I'll have that privilege.

But yes, times of solitude, introspection, and quiet reflection are good.

    1. Hi Arlee, you make a really good point, however. Isolation is not the answer anymore than like of introspection and quiet time is. There is a healthy balance, isn't there.
